Headlining fitting instructions for jaguar XJS

This job is within the capability of most competent owners. There is no gluing or drilling all the required holes and fixing points are already in place

At jagheadlinings.com we supply everything that you will need to undertake the project including:-

  1. The headboard
  2. Left and Right hand rear quarter panels
  3. Left and Right hand Cant rail (side rail finishers ) covers including replacement clips
  4. All items are covered in grey or beige (jaguar limestone) cloth

Removal of old headlining in sequence:

  1. Remove the sun visors

The Sun Visors are held in place by two screws at the outer end, the visor clips by one through its middle
  2. Remove the front and rear interior lights

Gently prise out the chrome light trims with a flat ended tool
  3. Remove the rear view mirror

Three screws hold rear view mirror these should be unscrewed.
  4. Removal of the rear deck and rear seat belts

It is not essential for access to the rear side pads (bits down the side) but will make the whole process easier. Remove the rear seat squab. The lower cushion is secured by two screws or bolts along its forward edge the rear seat back then comes out after removal of the two screws/bolts in its lower edge and then lifting toward the roof to disengage the clips.

Pull the covers from the rear seat belt reels and remove the single bolt that secures these to the rear deck.

The rear deck should now slide forward and can be removed.

  5. Removal of the Rear Side Pads and Side Cant Rails

The Rear side pads are held by Snap Sacs (pin and receptor) and can be pressed free as are the two side cant rails and depending on how they have been fitted may require the removal of the 'A' and 'B-C' post upper finishers (two screws on the A post and one screw under the coat hook cover and the seat anchor on the B-C post).

You will now have and interior free of trim parts and just the headlining biscuit left in place.
  6. Removal of the Headlining biscuit

Position the front seats with the drivers fully forward and tilted for access to the rear compartment and the passenger seat fully back with the rear fully reclined
With the help of an assistant to support the biscuit. Carefully bend down the fixing tags that hold the panel in position. Carefully lower the panel and rotate it through 90 degrees and pass it to your waiting assistant through the opened passenger door.
Now clean the whole of the newly exposed area.
You are now ready to fit the new Headlining Kit which is a simple reversal of the above process.
No messy glues or struggling to fit the fabric our XJS Headlining kit is ready to fit immediately.
  7. It is not essential for access to the rear side pads (bits down the side) but will make the whole process easier.
  8. Remove the rear seat squab. The lower cushion is secured by two screws or bolts along its forward edge the rear seat back then comes out after removal of the two screws/bolts in its lower edge and then lifting toward the roof to disengage the clips.

Hints and tips for fitting headlinings to other jaguar models

XJS FACELIFT:

The XJS Facelift board will install easily through the front passenger door aperture.

The sun visors, retaining clips and rear view mirror need to be removed before starting along with the side rail covers.

XJ6 / XJ12 / SERIES I, II & III.

These headlining boards will pass through the front passenger door aperture once the front seat has been removed.  We supply sufficient cloth for side rails and front and rear finishers with the headlining board.

The sun visors, retaining clips and rear view mirror need to be removed before starting along with the side rail covers.

XJ40, X300, X308, V8 including Long Wheel Base.

The headlining board can be installed through either the front or rear window aperture, the rear windows on 300 and 308 models are not usually bonded so can be removed relatively easily.

The sun visors, retaining clips and rear view mirror need to be removed before starting along with the side rail covers.

XK8 / XKR:

The headlining board can be installed through the front passenger door aperture once the front passenger seat has been removed, although it is a tight fit and ideally a two man job, one person offering the headlining board in and the other navigating it through into the rear of the car.  It can be made easier with the removal of the front passenger door, but this is not essential.

The sun visors, retaining clips and rear view mirror need to be removed before starting along with the side rail covers.
